Best Seasons for Exterior Painting in New Hampshire
When to schedule exterior painting around New Hampshire weather.
Late spring through early fall is the usual exterior window in Southern New Hampshire. The real limits are temperature and moisture, not the month on the calendar.
Why weather windows matter
Paint and primer need a surface that is dry enough and a temperature range the product can handle. Freeze-thaw, wet stretches, and overnight dew punish rushed coats. A sunny afternoon after a soaked week is not automatically a painting day.
How New Hampshire seasons treat siding
Winter opens coatings. Spring moisture sits in wood and on north walls. Summer sun cooks the south and west elevations. Fall can be excellent if the dew is manageable and the forecast holds. We schedule exterior work around those conditions so prep and cure time are protected—not so we can hit an arbitrary start date.
What we look at on the estimate
Peeling, bare wood, mildew, and chalking tell us more than a year count. Power washing is often the first step; pressure is matched to the material. Lead-safe practices apply on qualifying older homes. Read exterior painting and power washing for the full process.
